Deckers Outdoor Corporation, the makers of Teva Sandals are committed to assuring that all of the materials used in its products are safe - for workers, for consumers and for the environment. Teva Sport Sandals is a brand of footwear but not exclusively of sports sandals manufactured by the company. Teva takes its name from the Hebrew word for nature.
Mark Thatcher, the inventor of Teva sandals noticed the lack of proper shoes for river activities. Sneakers would become heavy when wet and would take days to dry and thongs or flip flops, the only kind of sandal available at the time, would slide off feet very easily. So Thatcher fashioned a thong-style sandal with nylon ankle strapping, thus creating the first sport sandal.
The first model was called "Hurricane" and it is the basic design of all Teva sandals. All designs developed from this proto-type to go on for more innovative, function-oriented footwear, primarily sandals. In time Teva went on to create high-performance outdoor, sports and recreational footwear.
Thus Teva is an authentic icon in the outdoor footwear industry. What started out as an innovative design by the Colorado River guide, went on to mark Teva as a pioneering sport sandal footwear that has now become an international leader. At Teva innovation remains a prime commitment in outdoor performance based footwear.
